 SHOPPING
story by Barbara Travis
What to wear when dining out is a common question with the answer based on whether or not the restaurant has a designated dress code. Some do, some
don’t, but common sense and courtesy are always proper guides. Dress to respect yourself and others, and you’ll always be good-to-go.
FOCUS ON FASHION
Many people consider going out to dinner a special occasion and enjoy dressing up, wearing smart casual or even semi- formal attire, but all that’s optional. Here in South Mississippi, we see everything from jeans and a nice top to a cocktail dress to a suit and tie, all in the same restaurant. Don’t discount denim as an option for dining out; it’s wonderfully versatile and diverse. With proper styling, denim can go from casual to dressy in a flash. Make its classic magic work for you!
DENIM DIVERSITY
Today’s diverse denim offerings run the whole gamut of color, style, and embellishment. Whether it’s skinny, straight, or bootcut, there’s a proper jean for every occasion and
every dining establishment. The trick is to pair them with the proper shirt, blouse, jacket, or blazer. Footwear and jewelry are the finishing touches that make or break the look. Choose your combinations wisely to fit the type of restaurant and its ambience.
DENIM JACKETS
This season’s denim jacket designs are unique and can magically change basic pants, dresses, or skirts into a work of art. For the most part, they’re longer, nicely fitted, and have interesting sleeves and collars. Some have ruffle details and small, well-placed gathers, while others stick to traditional styling but add a bit of bling in the form of rhinestones, pearls, or faux gemstones. All offer something special and produce a unique look.
CLASSY DENIM
Denim is classic, but dark shades of denim are classy. Whether you’re dressing for casual or fine dining, start with black or dark blue denim straight leg jeans, and add a great top and wedge sandals for a casual look or a dressy top, a jacket and heels for a more sophisticated entrance. Have fun with creative jewelry and handbag additions – denim accepts and loves it all!
