As a gardener, you will want to make sure you plant the right things to appear after spring rains in April. I generally follow the rule of waiting until after Easter to plant because Mississippi always seems to have a cold snap before Easter. The good news is that May is for planting!
It’s always a good idea to have a plan. Some gardeners keep a journal noting colors of plants, blooming dates for plants, and size of plants. You can always visit a landscape store or nursery if you need more information on types of plants to grow in South Mississippi. You may also need to decide if you want to plant perennials or annuals (or a combination).
Perennials and annuals can add interest to your landscape with their gorgeous flowers. Perennials return to your garden year after year. Perennials are attractive when their flowers bloom and during nonflowering periods with their beautiful foliage.
Annuals are quick to add color to your garden or landscape and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They are usually very sturdy and add versatility to your landscape.
Whether you choose perennials or annuals for your garden, or a combination of both, have a plan to make it easier for years to come. Happy gardening!
