I’m going to be real with y’all for a minute... I’ve been excited about this issue for a while. An entire magazine dedicated to the BEST food in Coastal Mississippi. What’s not to love?!
I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to share with you some of the BEST hidden gems along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. These are fan favorites that are off the beaten path, a little bit of a trek to get to, or hidden in plain sight. Regardless, these are my top five:
1. TARANTO’S WOOLMARKET
This special place is a little drive away, but is serving up some of the best boiled crawfish and crab. They also have perfected some Southern classics like po'boys, seafood platters, and crab cakes. I love the roast beef po'boy!
2. BURRITO ZONE
If you enjoy food that’s fresh and fast, this is going to be your new favorite spot! Serving up some delicious bowls, burritos, and tacos, Burrito Zone is the place to go for flavorful food served in a friendly environment. Once you select your base, you move down the line and add all of those toppings! Don’t forget to get an order of tamales!
3. THE SICILIAN II
The Sicilian II is home to one of the most wonderful lasagnas I’ve ever tasted IN. MY. LIFE. This place is nestled in a strip mall on the end of Pass Road and is always one of my top recommendations. From the flaming cheese appetizer to the wonderful family stories attached to particular menu items, The Sicilian II is sure to warm your heart and fill your stomach.
4. CB’S JAMAICAN JERK
Hidden in plain sight on Washington Avenue, CB’s Jamaican Jerk’s unique flavors and authentic dishes are a much-needed addition to the Coast. The menu consists of specials and classics like ox tails, jerk chicken, steamed cabbage, and so much more! Save room for the rum cake. It’s a MUST DO!
5. KIEN GIANG
Another cool spot in D’Iberville, this restaurant has a massive menu. You’ll experience amazing service and special dishes with so much flavor! This place is a favorite for the Gulf Coast Guy too. I recommend you try the pho!
