brought so much joy and new-found aptitude for the performing arts to many seniors.
Long-time group member Barbara Feindel speaks volumes. “It’s fun to be with our little group. We all get along and have fun together. It gives us exercise, both body and mind. I really miss getting together,” she remarks. “Anne-Marie is a great teacher. It’s a lot of work doing the dances, costumes and decorations. Sometimes we think we can’t do it, but we always manage. The seniors always enjoy it and I’ve had a few tell me they missed not having it. We also go to senior living homes, charities, and anyone that will enjoy us. We dance at our socials too. We’re really happy to be back at it again.”
Another member of The Dixie Line Dancers, in fact the longest standing member, Lynn Seymour, refers to her 10 years of experience in the group
as, “the entertainment and movement I need. I
love to dance. I love going to practices and being
on stage. It’s the best thing for me, because it gives me exercise, entertainment, and gets me out of
the house socializing and laughing and having fun. Believe it or not, not all seniors can do it – you really have to be in shape and have stamina.”
Seymour is a go-getter. “I think you can do anything you want to do if you really want to do it.” As the activity in the group died down in 2020 because of the pandemic, she found herself bored and missing the excitement and fun of dancing with The Dixie Line Dancers. “I was not like I used to be,” she says. “I tried exercising alone. I got bored with it and I’m not the same. I missed dancing with my friends. My mom and grandmother lived well into their 90s because they were very active and I plan to do that by staying active too. I’m so excited to be back dancing with my friends again.”
As you can see, their group brings joy and ful llment to so many people. They put their heart and soul into every production because they are downright fun and a greatly entertaining, not just for the members but for the audience members as well! Their favorite and biggest productions are usually the holiday musicals like Halloween and Christmas. But, they don’t stop there, they put on a show whenever opportunity arises. So, be on the lookout for a new show put on by The Dixie Line Dancers!
