for Humanity of the Mississippi Gulf Coast is dedicated to empowering women on the construction site while raising funds to support Habitat’s mission to help create a world where everyone has a safe, a ordable place to call home. “Families with children with a female head of household make up a staggering number of those in need of adequate housing. More than 12 million children – one in six – live in poverty housing in the United States alone,” Avery said.
At the time South Mississippi Living toured the home, Habitat was working with several families to determine who would occupy it. “We see who the house works best for with regard to size and location,” Avery said. “They must qualify and purchase the home. Donations make it a ordable for the low to moderate income families in our service area of Harrison, Jackson and Stone counties to be homeowners.”
The three-bedroom, two-bath home includes appliances in the kitchen, which has an abundance of cabinets, charcoal solid surface counter tops and a deep sink. The homeowner will provide other furnishings. For photos, the home was staged with furniture and decorative accents — new items — from ReStore, Habitat for Humanity’s non-pro t home improvement outlet. ReStore is open to the public and all revenue supports Habitat’s work in the area.
Avery says Habitat sees an increasing need for safe, a ordable housing. “This year our focus will be on restoring houses that were damaged in Hurricane Zeta, more of a Women Rebuild. The need is there and we want to help as many families as we can.”
