Biloxi Dentist Strives to Give People Back Their Smiles
Living by the motto, “Con dence in Every Smile,” Dr. Grafton Teets of Biloxi Family Dental Care provides all the general dental services one would expect, but he goes further.
“I went into dentistry because I wanted to help people get out of pain and give them their smiles back,” he recalled. “One way we do that is with something we call ‘Fountain of Youth’ dentures. These specialized dentures are designed to support the face better than traditional dentures which can make a person look years younger.”
Dr. Teets didn’t grow up in South Mississippi, but in Connecticut. He attended Vanderbilt University, the University of Florida and Northwestern Dental School in Chicago, Illinois. He also served 13 years active duty as a U.S. Army dentist. He nished his military career in the Army Reserves, retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 2005.
The doctor began practicing dental medicine in 1983 and came to Biloxi in 1996 because his wife, Cindy, has family in the area. In 2000, he opened Biloxi Family Dental Care at 2628 Executive Place and remains active in the community by helping various charities, such as ghting breast cancer and supporting the Humane Society of South Mississippi. The o ce also participates in the Adopt a Grandparent program at assisted living facilities to make the lives of seniors more enjoyable.
Many people fear going to a dentist, especially children, but everyone must visit one periodically. Dr. Teets and his sta try to put any anxiety at ease and make the patient’s visit as pleasant as possible.
“For a dentist, communication is the key,” the doctor advised. “I tell the patients what I’m doing each step of the way. Once they know what’s going to happen, they can prepare themselves. Sometimes the patients ask ahead of my explanations. My favorite is the patient who asked me, ‘what are you going to do with that glue gun?’ before I could tell them it was a curing light to set his lling.”
