The Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art (OOMA) will be hosting a fundraiser, The Main Event: The Greatest Fight-Ohr on Earth on Saturday, June 10. The event is a boxing fundraiser, marking history as the first time the museum has hosted a boxing event. Spectators will also be able to enjoy a bourbon tasting, cigars, and barbecue. The fundraiser will take place from 7-10 p.m. in the museum’s plaza.
According to Kevin O’Brien, the museum’s executive director, the highlight of the evening will be three sparring matches in a regulation sized ring where six Golden Glove boxers will show their skills. “It’s going to be quite a sight to see our plaza transformed into a sporting venue,” he said.
Proceeds from this unique fundraiser will support museum operations and education programs at the Ohr- O’Keefe Museum. Individual ticket prices are $50 for members and $60 for non-members. Ringside tables that seat ten are also available for $750.

A Memorial Day tradition on the Coast continues this year with Sounds by the Sea presented by the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra. The Harrison County concert will by Saturday, May 27, at Jones Park in Gulfport, and the Jackson County concert will be Sunday, May 28, at Beach Park in Pascagoula. Both events begin at 7 p.m.
The concerts feature the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra performing patriotic music selections under the direction of Dr. Peter Rubardt, ending with a spectacular fireworks display.
“The purpose of the program is to salute the men and women of the Armed Forces who served and sacrificed for our country and those who are continuing to serve,” Sounds by the Sea Chairman Shelia White said.
Each branch of the military is recognized musically while those who served in those branches are asked to stand.
The Sounds by the Sea concerts are funded by the City of Gulfport, Harrison County Board of Supervisors, Jackson County Board of Supervisors, City of Pascagoula, Chevron, private businesses, and individual donors. Tables and sponsorships are available.
