inding a Perfect Home is a challenge! It may be fun yet overwhelming looking on Zillow, REALTOR®. com, Trulia, and other sites, but it’s important not to chase listings from one area to another. First you need to meet with a REALTOR® to sit down and go over what the PERFECT house for you will be. Even then,
you may look at a dozen homes before finding the one that is right for you. (Note: as long as your agent is accessible, responsive, and knowledgeable of the area where you want to live, then stay with him or her!)
Before you begin, you must get your finances in order by getting
a pre-approval for a mortgage and determining your price range. With that pre-approval you will be ready to put an offer in once you find the home of your dreams.
Do you prefer a house or a condo? One story or two? Keep the future in mind when determining the number of bedrooms and baths. Your family may grow, or you may need to have extra room for a home office, or parents if they move in with you in later years. Get familiar with the architectural styles that you like and those you don’t. Don’t get caught up with flooring, light fixtures, paint colors. You can change them later, but it will cost you money.
Build or purchase new? The price of building a new home has declined and new subdivisions are popping up in all areas.
Location is everything! Do you want to be near the beach and water? Walk-able to shopping and restaurants? Golf-Course? Subdivisions or more rural? Commuting distance to your work? Convenience to grocery and medical facilities? If you have children, schools are very important. You may want to personally visit schools and check out ratings.
Having your list in mind before you meet with your REALTOR® will make the process easier and narrow your search and time shopping for your perfect home!
