George County topped 17 teams to capture the Shamrock Cup
at The Oaks Golf Club with a 306 total, followed
closely by West Jones 316, St. Stanislaus 319 and Gulfport 320. Biloxi’s Miles Jackson fired a spectacular 3-under 69 to take Medalist honors in the St. Patrick Invitational, the final of five high school major golf events of the season.
David Barry of Laurel’s West Jones High School seized South Mississippi Living Player of the Year honors with a final-round 1-over 73 for a consistent 73.00 average over four events. More than 120 high school golf players competed in the High School Majors at Diamondhead, Pine Burr, Timberton, Great Southern
and The Oaks. Players were required to play in at least three of the majors to be eligible for the year-end awards.
“The major tournaments prepare these high school golfers for District and State, and with the success of Coast schools in the last few years, these big events are certainly having an impact,” said organizer Michael Sunderman.
Miles Jackson joined Barry on the All-HS Majors Team with a 74.00 average, followed by Jackson Wedgeworth (West Jones) 74.50, Colby Entriken (Hancock) 76.25, Vincent Almerico (St. Stanislaus) 76.60, Cy Smith (George County) 77.00, Tyler Haskins (Hancock) 78.00, Sean Smith (George County) 78.40, Carter Nicholson (PRC) 79.20, Isaac Marshall (George County) 79.40 and Ethan Dean (Vancleave) 79.50.
