The Ribbon Walk befitting the Pink Heart Funds and the Oncology Fund takes place April 29 at the Town Green in Long Beach. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the walk at 8 a.m. on the 5K-certified course.
Brenda Long and JoAn Nicely, both active cancer fund raisers, joined forces to establish a walk to benefit patients and The Ribbon Walk was started. Funds are split between the two organizations.
“There is such a need,” Long said. “Because we help with all types of cancer and there is a different color ribbon for each type of cancer, I just felt like The Ribbon Walk was a perfect name because it helps all patients with all types of cancer.”
The Oncology Fund provides gas cards, medication and other needs to patients and Pink Heart Funds provides free wigs, breast prosthetics, bras and lymphedema sleeves to local cancer patients.
There will also be a silent auction and a Butterfly Release at 11 a.m. Butterflies can be purchased in honor or memory of loved ones.
