Breast cancer death rates are 40 percent higher among black women than white women. Black Americans are 10 percent more likely to experience serious psychological distress. Only one in three black Americans who need mental health care will receive it. Black children’s health is also affected at the alarming
rate of more than twice their white counterpart with poverty being a leading cause.
A health crisis for one is a health crisis for all. You don’t have to be a woman of color to find all of these facts unacceptable. Awareness is on the rise, which means that we should see an improvement in these statistics soon. We can all do our part this month
by having conversations with others about these devastating statistics. It is only when those who aren’t within the group in need take notice that true change is affected. Be the change you wish to see in the world!
