FROM THE editor’s desk
Everything can change in the blink of an eye. From the time our team started working on the April issue until now, right before we go to print, so much is different.
COVID-19 has made its rounds, and its effects can now been seen here in our own community. What a strange feeling – when something that was foreign and “other” comes to our hometowns, our schools, our places of work. Despite the fear that has gripped our community and the world, I’ve seen the strength and perseverance of Coastal Mississippi firsthand. As a result, I can only believe that we will persevere yet again – together.
South Mississippi Living has always strived to be, first and foremost, a publication for the people of the Gulf Coast. Throughout these difficult times, we will continue to do what we always have: share the uplifting stories of our beloved Coast and her people. When times have been hard, the community has supported us and we will do the same.
We can’t deny that things are different now. Due to quarantine there are no local events to attend, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still support one another as a community. Our magazine
is always available to read online, and in the interim we will be especially active on social media. Many of our local businesses are offering online shopping opportunities, delivery, and pickup options from restaurants, which we will be sharing on our Facebook page for easy accessibility.
While we all wait this out together, we hope that you will continue to be encouraged by the amazing people of Coastal Mississippi. Our tourism bureau has a great saying, “I am Coastal Mississippi,” which encourages all of us to take ownership of our home and be proud to represent it. During times of trouble, I am never more proud of the people of South Mississippi.
