t’s finally April. Well, that’s if the year seems to have
been moving slowly for you. Let’s try this again: I cannot
believe that it is already April.
April is a month filled with showers, the hopes of May flowers, the beloved Easter holiday and it also means the rock band Foreigner will be making its way back to the Coast for an April 26 show at the Hard Rock Biloxi. You
can count on
the band that
is famous for
songs such as
“Hot Blooded”
and “Urgent” to
make a spring
appearance
in South
Mississippi.
One of the great
things about
Foreigner shows
is that the band
always gets a
local children’s choir to join them on stage to sing
the huge hit “I Want to Know What Love Is.” I’ve been helping the band get the choirs for years, either through contests or making a phone call to a choir director and saying, “Hey. Would your choir like to sing with Foreigner?” The answer is almost always a resounding, “Yes.”
This year some of the students from Coast Episcopal
School in Long Beach will put on their best rock star attire to join Foreigner on stage at the Hard Rock Live. They will join the elite list that includes Ocean Springs Upper Elementary School, Pass Road

Elementary School and West Harrison High School as the most recent schools to join forces with Foreigner. It’s a win-win for the school, the band and the community.
The students not only get to join a major
rock band on stage
in front of a sold-out crowd, but the band also donates $500 to the school for its music program. And the
community gets to take great pride in watching the choir perform.
I cannot stress the importance of music in our schools. My life would have turned out much different had I not been exposed to music when I was in elementary school. I hope all of you will come to the show April 26 and support the Coast Episcopal students as they let us know “what love is.”
