story by Kelsey Sunderman-Foster
There’s nothing quite like spending a summer afternoon with friends and family, and no one does it quite like the Mississippi Gulf Coast. With sixty-two miles of beautiful coastal shoreline and countless indoor and outdoor adventure opportunities, there’s something here for everyone to enjoy.
Head to the beach for some sun and sand in any of the coastal counties. Each city lends its own personality to the beach-goer experience. From beachfront dining to outdoor adventure, there’s so much to explore along the Gulf Coast. Visit one of the many beach vendors to rent aqua cycles, jet skis, kayaks, paddle boards, and other fun toys.
If water rides are more your speed, be sure to check out Gulf Islands Waterpark this season. The water park features an array of entertainment, from water attractions to special events hosted at the park. What would a day at the water park be without some exciting and thrilling water rides? Gulf Islands is home to five full-sized slides, each named after an element of coastal life and varying in intensity.
Gulf Islands Waterpark has attractions for everyone,
no matter the age or level of adventure. For the little
ones, Gulf Islands presents Lil’ Pelicans Bay, a shallow 200-square foot wadding area that’s perfect for families with small children and Pascagoula, a 27-foot long obstacle course that is suited for toddlers and young teens alike. Be careful not to fall in!
Right next door to Gulf Islands is the new ZIP’N FUN Adventure Park. This park invites guests to “experience
a squirrel’s eye view of nature” by way of a tree-to-tree obstacle course. This course features everything from tight ropes, bridges, swinging obstacles and zip lines. As you progress, each challenge becomes more and more difficult. Be sure to reserve your spot today, as there is a limit to how
many guests can be on the course at a time.
Trampoline parks such as Altitude Trampoline Park in
Gulfport and Mullet Hop in D’Iberville offer guests an off-the-wall experience in a massive space full of floor
to ceiling trampolines. From trampoline grids to angled trampoline walls and launching decks, there are a variety of ways to jump, bounce and flip. Though open bounce options are available, what really sets trampoline parks apart from traditional trampolines are the exciting sports that can be adapted to be played mid-air.
For those who aren’t afraid of heights, why not give rock climbing a try? Margaritaville Resort Biloxi’s Escape family entertainment center features a 40-foot, two-story Volcano Rock Climbing Wall, which allows up to five people
to climb up through the ceiling into the Margaritaville Restaurant above. The 55,000-square-foot family entertainment center also features a variety of arcade games, an obstacle-ridden ropes course and an indoor zip line roller coaster.
Big Play Entertainment Center in Biloxi offers families with members of all ages the perfect day of play, all in one location. The site offers arcade games, bowling, two 18-hole miniature golf courses, go-karts, bumper cars, laser maze and more. They even have a mining station where you can pan for treasure including gold, gemstones, fossils and arrowheads.
