LETTERS to the editor
LETTER from the editor
April is a beautiful month in South Mississippi with pleasant weather, blooming flowers and many things to do that get us outside. There are festivals, art shows and special events across the three counties.
Thank you so very much for the wonderful article with photos you placed in the March issue concerning my books and signing.
TOM SIMMONS
Surely you like this month’s colorful, upbeat cover as much as we
do. It previews the Kids section, a special section with helpful lists, entertaining stories and some useful information. In this last category are stories about summer fun — things to do with the kids — and advice on teaching kids about money. If you’re looking for something sweet to read,
the piece about
children and
their security
blankets is not
to be missed.
Maybe you or
your children
didn’t have a
security blanket,
but many do. One
of my children
had a blanket she
called “Fuzzy.”
It was a major
problem when she
lost Fuzzy on a
family vacation.
After retracing our
steps, the blanket
wasn’t found, which made for several long nights until she could adjust to the new Fuzzy.
Perhaps the most helpful things in this edition are the lists of private schools and summer camps. The school year doesn’t last much longer and parents are beginning to make plans for summer camps. Our list has options for every age and interest.
In tandem with the Kids section is a story about the newly formed Gulfport Green Wave Youth Association in the Sports & Outdoors section, and The Final Say by guest writer Carole Lynn Meadows, who reflects on the beginning of the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center and what it means to children.
In the Coast Notes section, be sure to read about the exciting honor bestowed on Gulfport and some great fundraisers, including United Way’s Dragon Boat Festival and the first ever White Coats & Wine benefitting the St. Vincent de Paul Community Pharmacy.
Watercolor artist Herb Willey takes us “Along Beach Boulevard” in the Art section. Among the several stories in the People section is a tribute piece to the late John Miner of Ocean Springs.
