The Coastal Contracting story began when Steven Carlson relocated to the Gulf Coast in his early 30s. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and raised in Carriere, Mississippi, he was immersed in the rich culture, architecture, and history of the South – elements that can be seen today in his building style.
He founded Coastal Contracting in 2015 with the idea to offer home buyers the quality they weren’t getting backed by personalized service for an affordable price. “Making the choice to have your home custom-built is a big decision and can be very scary,” says Carlson. We take those fears away by involving our clients every step of the way.”
While there are plenty of builders out there, Carlson knew he wanted to give his customers a truly custom experience, a home as unique as they are that meets each family’s individual needs. “I noticed that with many builders out there, there wasn’t much variety to choose from,” he said. “You looked through four or five different floor plans and kitchen cabinet styles and always had to settle for the option that you disliked the least. And who wants a cookie-cutter house?”
There is nothing cookie-cutter about the homes built by Coastal Contracting. Their goal is to build their clients’ dream homes – a home that perfectly aligns

Carlson finds his career to be an incredibly rewarding one. “The most satisfying thing is to see the smiles on the faces of our clients when they come visit the job site during construction. When they see we have successfully made their biggest dream a reality... that’s pretty special,” Carlson said with a grin.
