FINAL SAY
MATT
COMPTON
Vice President/COO Compton & Son Appliance
From when I was a little kid running around the warehouses and spending my summers working with my dad and grandfather, being at the family business always seemed like the plan. I always enjoyed working with my family and being part of the construction industry.
My first job in the family business was building ductwork in the summers for our HVAC division. When I graduated high school in 2006, I transitioned to being a delivery and install driver for the appliance store. I enjoyed working on the trucks and getting to know what made appliances work and the ins and outs of the construction world. In 2010, I transferred
to inside sales, but the company was a lot smaller then as we were overcoming the construction bust in 2008. I knew our family had something special and I wanted to do more with the business to help continue my grandfather’s legacy.
Since 1964, Compton’s Appliance has thrived on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. In October 2011, my dad, Chuck Compton, decided to make a change and we partnered together to create Compton & Son Appliance. He wanted us to start something together and continue the father and son legacy.
In December 2014, we started to diversify our business after returning from a trade show in Vegas. I was able to convince my dad to open a grill store. It started as a 12x12 piece of green carpet. Fast forward to today, we have grills, seasoning, and furniture that take up 5,000 square feet of our store.
What separates our business from big box stores or even other appliance stores in our industry is the personal service we try to provide for our customers. We try to go above and beyond to make our customers not feel like another transaction but more like family and friends when they purchase from us. The team we have working for us is also what makes us successful, and I know Compton & Son wouldn’t be where we are without them.
Some of our team members have been a part of the Compton family for 15 years and know that providing quality service is what keeps us thriving in today’s world of online marketplaces.
Today’s industry
isn’t what it was when
we opened our doors
in 1964. Technology
is moving faster
than ever from TV
screens in fridge doors
to Alexa-powered
laundry. Unfortunately
with advancements
in technology come
growing pains, and in
today’s industry the
saying “they aren’t
made like they used to” is a phrase we hear often. However, we work hard to bring our customers quality products, and even though we may not always have the latest technology in the store, we put huge emphasis on bringing appliances and products that are built to last.
Just like the appliance industry, Compton’s is constantly evolving and bringing in new products to offer the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I am proud to be a third generation business and know that my grandfather and my family have sacrificed a lot along the way to make us who we are today. I look forward to being a part of the industry for years to come. So, if you’re
in the market for new appliances, whether it’s a remodel, new build, or replacement, give us a try and we will show you what makes Compton & Son different.
