HOME & GARDEN design on a dime
story by Kelsey Sunderman-Foster
Trends are always changing, but so is personal style. Rooms that we decorated just a few years ago can grow lackluster with age, or
maybe we just grow tired them. Luckily, there are some easy interior updates that you can not only do yourself, but on a budget.
Hardware Updates:
This might seem like a simple change, but hardware updates can completely change the feel of a room. From drawer pulls to door knobs, there are countless different styles to choose from. For this quick and easy update, all you need is a handy dandy screwdriver.
Ceramic Tile Stencils:
Tired of your old tile floors? Stencils are a great way to change the color as well as add a fun pattern. The process is actually pretty easy — just clean the tiles, apply a primer, paint a base color and then paint the pattern using the stencil. There are a wide variety of stencil patterns and sizes available, so choose the one that best suits your style and pre- existing tile size.
Chalk Paint:
I’m a firm believer in chalk paint; this stuff is amazing. Unlike with traditional latex paints, surfaces don’t need to be sanded or primed before application. With limitless color options, chalk paint is a fun way to brighten up old furniture or update stained cabinets. You can purchase pre-made chalk paint, make your own, or even have it made for you in just the right shade at your local hardware store.
