For six years Taste of South Mississippi has been raising funds for The Salvation Army Kroc Center’s scholarship program. This year’s Taste will be March 28, 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., at the Kroc Center.
The scholarships allow free memberships and free program participation at the center. In 2018, 40 scholarships funded 175 members and more than $9,200 paid to enroll children in after school and camp programs.
“The more people who participate in Taste of South Mississippi with sponsorships, being a participating restaurant, donating or purchasing a silent auction item, purchasing tickets to the event, or donating
to our cause — the more awareness is brought to what the Kroc Center does for the community,” Kroc Center Director Danielle Emery said.
Event Chairman Charles O’Hala adds, “This includes helping children with school supplies, clothing, and food; letting youth participate in sports; engage in the fine arts, attend special events, and all that happens in the Kroc Center year round.”
A highlight of this year’s event will be music by Gram Rea and the St. John’s AME Men’s Choir. Tickets are $30 each.
