LEISURE do it yourself
READY FOR SPRING
DIY HOPS into Action story and photos by Kelsey Sunderman-Foster
Springtime is right around the corner, offering promises of warmer days and bright new leaves on the trees. Keeping in tune with the idea of renewal and growth, Spring décor tends to feature bright colors and tons of florals. A great DIY project to tackle this season is this easy and fun Easter bunny wreath, complete with a hydrangea tail! This little guy is sure to brighten the entrance of any home.
HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
• 2 grapevine wreaths in varying sizes to make the bunny’s head and body
• 2 small grapevine wreaths to make the bunny’s ears (these smaller wreaths
are often sold together in a bundle of 2)
• florals and greenery of your choice
• wired ribbon
• brown grapevine wire
• floral wire
• floral tape
• glue gun and glue sticks • wire cutters
STEP 1:
Attach the medium and large grapevine wreaths. To do this, lay the two wreaths adjacent to each other and wrap with brown grapevine wire.
STEP 2:
Form the ears by pressing in on opposite sides of the small grapevine wreaths. You’ll need to use some force as the wreaths will need to crack at the top and bottom to create the tapered bunny ear shape.
STEP 3:
Attach the ears to the head with the brown grapevine wire.
STEP 4:
Create a large bow with the wired ribbon and fasten to where the medium and large wreaths join. To do this, you can tie the bow to the wreaths with ribbon or wire.
STEP 5:
Accent the bow with florals and greenery, using wire cutters to get them to the size you want. You can wrap the ends of the florals with floral tape to dull any sharp edges. Apply hot glue to the ends of the flowers to be sure they stay in place.
STEP 6:
Cut some smaller pieces of greenery and place them throughout the grapevine wreaths, securing them with hot glue.
STEP 7:
For the final touch, add a white flower or other material to the bottom of the wreath to create a fluffy tail.
Now your Easter bunny wreath is ready for its big debut!
