ow that he is retired, Paul Harold “Hal” Moore Jr., M.D., said, “my time is my own.” That has not always been the case.
His colleagues with Singing River Radiology Group and Singing River
Health System have nothing but praise for the 66-year-old radiologist.
Roland Mestayer, M.D., with Singing River Radiology, has known Hal Moore for 25 years. While he respects Moore’s professionalism, he said Moore is also a community leader. “Through his example, I learned that our responsibility to our
community and profession doesn’t end when we hang up our
lab coats every day. He showed me that we have
a greater responsibility to work and give of ourselves
to improve the lives and welfare of others,” Mestayer
said.
Kevin Holland, former
CEO with SRHS, agreed. “Dr. Moore’s service and
contributions to the entire medical
staff and healthcare system will stand as a model of selfless service and sacrifice for others
to follow,”
Holland said. “He was a true leader, a gentleman in every sense of the word, and he will be missed in his well-deserved retirement.”
Karen Ehlers, director of radiology at SRHS, recalled her 35 years working with the radiologist. “He taught me to pay attention to detail and plan ahead. One of the biggest contributions to our department was his advocacy for our profession. He would focus on the importance of quality and safety, which led to obtaining state-of-the-art equipment.”
After medical school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and a residency in New Mexico, Moore joined his father’s practice in Pascagoula. His father, Paul H. Moore Sr., M.D., founded Singing River Radiology Group in 1972. Hal Moore served as its managing partner from 1996-2016.
He and his wife, Melanie Reimer Moore, both have been active in the community as they raised three sons. He has served in several capacities with SRHS, and on the boards of the Jackson County Salvation Army, Walter Anderson
Museum of Art, Merchants & Marine Bank and the University of Mississippi Alumni Association. He plays the keyboard and sings in the choir at First Presbyterian Church in Pascagoula.
Hal Moore’s friends shared a couple of things most might not know about him.
From Dr. Mestayer: “He hosted some of the best parties I’ve ever been to, and could have made a good living as an event planner if he wanted to.”
From Karen Ehlers: “Dr. Moore could be a film critic! Remember, I said he pays attention to detail. He could easily be the next Roger Ebert.”
