HOME & GARDEN tour of homes
66th Spring Pilgrimage set for April 4-7 story by Lynn Lofton
Each year the Mississippi Gulf Coast Council of Garden Clubs hosts a complimentary tour of homes and gardens from Diamondhead to Moss Point. This year’s pilgrimage is April 4-7 with each day an adventure to a different location. A complete list of tour times and places are listed on the council’s website.
“The theme is April Showers Bring Coastal Flowers, which was chosen by a past Spring Pilgrimage Chair, Marge Bailey, who is the current president of the Council of Garden Clubs,” the 2018 Chair Beth Margherio said. “This is another indication of the continued dedication and commitment to this garden club community project.”
Old fashioned watering cans that have been transformed by local artists into works of art will be featured in a raffle. Proceeds will benefit community beautification projects.
The Pilgrimage opens on April 4 at 9 a.m. with a flower show at the Biloxi Visitors Center hosted by the Dogwood Garden Club.
“The brochures for the tour will
be available here along with
lovely floral arrangements for viewing,” council member Dickie Roberts said. “Also that day, three homes are featured by the Biloxi Garden Club as well as the BVM Cathedral. Mary Mahoney gardens and courtyard will be open and Bobby Mahoney will give the history of the restaurant. Gulfport will have two homes open in the afternoon.”
Roberts explained that the specific homes are not announced weeks in advance of the event as a courtesy to homeowners.
April 5 will showcase three homes in Diamondhead and three homes in Long Beach. The Ocean Springs Garden Club will host
four homes on April 6. Starting at 1:00 p.m. on April
6, the Gautier Garden Club will host a festival which will include cooking demonstrations with refreshments, miniature floral arrangements with a workshop, and an art show of local artists. “Back by popular demand is the Rusty Dusty Antique Treasures. Five appraisers will be on hand to provide appraisal opinions
for attendee treasures,” Roberts said. “Please bring only two small items.”
On April 7, the Moss Point Garden Club will host three
homes with water views, and the Pascagoula Garden Club takes a step back in time with three homes built in the late 1800s.
