LETTER from the editor
March is the month that spring arrives and grass starts turning green. There’ll also be the wearing o’ the green as local residents celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with parades and parties. There’s a bit of red too as we salute American Red Cross month.
We have a lot of interesting and entertaining content this month beginning with Coast Notes and moving along to the People story. Researcher and USM Gulf Coast professor Greg Bradley discusses his experiences and
observations of eight trips to Cuba since 2013. With many of
us wanting to travel there now that relations have warmed between our two countries, Bradley’s comments are timely and spot on.
In 2015, we celebrated 50 Years of Miracles at the Home of Grace. 800 alumni and friends came to
the 50th Anniversary Homecoming Scholarship Program, and most importantly, 545 men and women found freedom from addiction.
Looking back, we have so much to celebrate and it was all because of you.
On behalf of the staff, alumni and board of directors, Thank you for your support and helping us point the lost and hurting to the transforming power of Jesus Christ.

Anyone who’s studied Hancock County history knows that Kiln was a hotbed of whiskey making during the U.S. Prohibition. The illegal ‘stills’ provided home brew for Chicago gangsters, including the infamous Al Capone — or so the popular story goes. It’s all legal now as a Bay St. Louis father and son team start a bourbon distillery.
The Leisure story about the South Mississippi Ballroom Dancers-Urban Style is uplifting. The couple who started this group is a good example of why living here is grand. They moved here from another part of the country and are making a positive difference.
That brings me to our special section, Home & Garden. It includes our monthly feature home, which is always a treat as gracious homeowners allow us a peek inside. There’s also a story about a Waveland home featured on the TV show, Tiny House Nation. The residential resurgence occurring along the waterfront in Gulfport is encouraging, big time, and we’ve got the scoop along with photos. And, two Master Gardener stories will inspire you to get outside and start digging.
