Robert Reid has worked in the hospitality industry for nearly 30 years, and has served in positions from the vice president and general manager of a casino, overseeing casino restaurants, to his current venture as the owner of one of the newer restaurants in downtown Gulfport: The District on the Alley.
A native of California, Reid moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast three years ago, and opening a restaurant seemed like the most natural next step in his career. “I have always been
in the people business, and with the
resurgence of downtown Gulfport, it was the perfect fit once I retired from the casino industry,” he said.
Patrons of The District on the
Alley can enjoy fresh seafood, steaks, pasta dishes, burgers and wings.
A brunch menu is also available
on the weekends, with bottomless mimosas and a bloody mary bar. Live entertainment, courtyard seating, and a rooftop patio contribute to
the restaurant’s casual and unique atmosphere.
One of Reid’s favorite dishes to prepare is his signature dish of his
secret sauce in a seafood medley. When asked about his favorite dish on the menu, it’s not an easy selection to make: “That’s an unfair question,” he said. “All of them!”
The District on the Alley is a member of the Mississippi Coast Restaurant and Beverage Association.
