and locked in less than 30 yards away when the team popped up and took their shots, dropping several.
When it was time to pack it in, Britt still needed two more birds to reach her limit and headed toward some Black Scoter she had spotted a couple of hundred yards away. Chris has been a fishing guide during the summer and hunting guide during the winter for many years, yet this was the first time he had seen Black Scoters on the Coast.
As Britt approached, the birds jumped early but then several flew toward her from the west. She quickly hunkered down, then popped up as they were crossing near her and fired. She stood open mouthed as two fell from the sky — she had nailed them both with one shot!
On her first hunt she killed several fine divers including two Black Scoters. And she had done it with her grandfather’s gun. He would have been proud.
