LETTER from the editor
February is a short month but one that’s filled with plenty of activities and the promise that our brief South Mississippi winter won’t last much longer. With daylight
increasing little by
little each day, maybe Spring is just around the corner.
Thank you, South Mississippi Living magazine, for featuring us in your ‘City Closeup’ of Gulfport! We are looking forward to an awesome 2019!

12 SOUTH MISSISSIPPI Living • February 2019
With lots of couples
becoming engaged
on Valentine’s Day,
wedding plans start
filling the air. For
the sixth year, South
Mississippi Living and
the generous sponsors
happily present the
Romance and Wedding
special section. This
big section has a lot of
helpful information,
including tips on what
to buy and what to DIY,
pre-wedding skin care,
who pays for what and
an updated wedding
check list. There is also a wedding anniversary story, a ‘surprise’ wedding story, and accounts provided by some of our readers about how they met their in-laws.
This month’s Coast Notes spotlights awards and honors won by individuals, Harrison County and the city of Gulfport.
The People section is always a nice way to honor Coast residents and the things they do. This month is no exception with a piece about a lady using her free time and plastic bags to help the area’s homeless population, and a Coast Character who’s making a name for herself in the entertainment industry.
The Dining section is the usual treat of reviews of great places to eat and columns by contributors Jeff Clark and the Coast Restaurant and Hospitality Association.
If you want to see a most unusual home, look no further than this month’s Home section. There is nothing else like the Gryder home in Ocean Springs.
Always informative, the Healthy Living section has the scoop on this year’s up-and-coming food trends and a way to gauge whether or not you’re fit. Not to ignore that February is National Heart Month, we have a piece about the Heart Association’s Circle of Red and another about a young heart patient’s progress since she was in this magazine six years ago.
