ROMANCE & WEDDING blooming romance
story by Lynn Lofton
Flowers are a beautiful and important component of weddings. Rachel
Bond of Pine Hills Floral Designs in Pass Christian has helpful tips about flowers.
“Some great ways to stay on track with your floral budget
include: stick with seasonal flowers, rent vases, choose fresh
over silk and choose large blooms,” she said. “Most flowers are available throughout the year, but some are seasonal and can be expensive outside of that time. Seasonal flowers seem more natural because those blooms can be seen in gardens at the time of your wedding.”
Although some brides buy their vases in bulk and re-sell them after the wedding, Bond says containers can usually be rented for less money. “The florist will clean them, pick them up
(for a small fee), and you do not have to bargain online to sell them,” she advises.
Another common misconception is that fresh flowers are more expensive than silk. “While craft stores offer coupons on their silk flowers, typically a wedding quality silk flower is
more expensive than a fresh one,” Bond said. “If you need several arrangements, consider
using large
flowers such as
hydrangeas,
calla
lilies, and
orchids
because you
can make
a beautiful
design using
only a few
stems.”
