and spawned both Gulf Oil and Texaco, which are both part of Chevron today.
Travel bugs look like military dog tags and have a unique ID number printed on them. For $5 you can purchase a pair through the Groundspeak website, where you can also name them and create a mission. For example, we named one of ours “Nemo,” tied a small plastic clown fish to the tag, gave him a mission to make it back home, and placed him in a cache down in the Florida Keys.
Geocachers retrieved Nemo and carried him to: North Carolina, Houston, Kansas City, Memphis, South Bend, San Francisco, San Diego, before he was finally lost near Los Angeles, California, after logging over 7,000 miles. Superbug, another of our travel bugs, travelled 8,500 miles and even made it to Hawaii!
Geocaching is a great way for both families and couples to enjoy free outdoor entertainment. Kids learn how to navigate, use math, and find new places. Many adults find it to be a hobby that’s a fun way to get exercise. For more information, go to the website: http://www.geocaching. com/.
