ALLSTATE FOUNDATION JOINS NONPROFIT TO PROMOTE
TEENSAFE
DRIVING
story by Lynn Lofton
Five area high schools are among 15 state schools receiving grants from the National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) to support teen
safe driving initiatives and sponsor the efforts of SAVE chapters in Mississippi. The local schools are Biloxi High, D’Iberville High, St. Patrick Catholic High, Hancock County High and Ocean Springs High.
The SAVE grants are funded by the Allstate Foundation, which aims to help the nonprofit further its mission
to engage, to empower, to encourage and to educate students. SAVE is committed to preventing violence and advocating for student safety in schools and communities across the country.
“With nearly 8,000 people killed in crashes involving drivers ages 16 to 20 each year, encouraging and empowering teens to promote safe driving among their peers has never been more important,” said Allstate agent Steven James.
Since its inception in 1989, SAVE has grown from one school group to more than 2,100 chapters located in 48 states and seven countries.
