By Accident of Birth, newly released novel by Thomas E. Simmons of Gulfport, spans the Atlantic, from the U.S. during
the Civil War to Cuba and France to Ireland and WWI. A most incredible life and tragic end begins in 1915 as Bethany Quinn receives a call from the British Crown saying she is in possession of a cache of arms stored in her sugar mill warehouse in Cuba. An era she thought long past is resurrected in the last “special cargo” shipment to England to aid the allies in WWI.
“I just finished the book and it’s absolutely one of the most astonishing blends of fascinating characters with historical events and real people into a sweeping saga I have ever read! The amount of research is staggering,” said reader Joanne Walker.
Thomas E. Simmons is the author of three other books and numerous magazine articles. The Last Quinn Standing, a sequel to By Accident of Birth, is due for release later this year.

Puts music back into little lives
story by Lynn Lofton
Blues music will fill the air on February 26
at a fundraiser for Jackson County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). CASA BLUES begins at 6 p.m. at the Grand Magnolia Ballroom in Pascagoula and will honor the police departments of Ocean Springs, Gautier, Pascagoula and Moss Point.
“Our guests will enjoy an evening of
food, drinks, music and a silent auction
until 10 p.m.,” said Frances L. Allsup, executive director of Jackson County CASA. “We’re anticipating a lot of excitement
and look forward to bringing this night of entertainment and fun to our community. This event is about putting the music back into little lives.”
Funds raised will aid the organization in recruiting and training new volunteers. These trained advocates become officers for the court and are dedicated to providing a voice for the abused and neglected children who’re on their journey through youth court. Each advocate is assigned a case to review and research before providing recommendations to the court. The youth court judge considers these recommendations when making decisions on children’s futures.
