and bountiful estuaries that provide 78 percent of our nation’s shrimp landings, white sandy beaches that create nearly $10 trillion in annual wages, working waterfronts encompassing 13 of the nation’s 25 leading ports by tonnage, and a rich outer continental shelf and deep canyon area that provides 50 percent of the nation’s oil reserves.
In order to maintain these valuable energy resources, abundant seafood, and extraordinary recreational activities of the Gulf of Mexico, the Gulf of Mexico Alliance (GOMA) was created as a regional collaborative e ort with a goal of improving the health and sustainability of our coastal areas and the lives of millions of people that live, work, and visit this region every year.
GOMA works across Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida to support vibrant communities, habitats, and businesses at the heart of our region. By providing information, resources, and training opportunities, GOMA builds partnerships between industry, government agencies, scientists, and non-pro t organizations.
GOMA projects identify ways to help threatened and endangered wildlife, protect and improve coastal habitats, and support on-the-ground stewardship. And, these healthy habitats have an enormous impact on the economic health of our region. GOMA partners include industries such as shing, seafood processing, tourism, and energy. Our partners provide the talent and resources to realize on-the-ground e orts in ways that a single entity cannot.
