Diamondhead
Incorporated in 2012, Diamondhead is the newest city in Hancock County and the state of Mississippi. The city’s beginning began in the late 1950s when the Federal Highway Act of 1956 created Interstate 10 allowing greater access to Hancock County communities. With the construction of NASA’s Stennis Space Center in the 1960s, an influx of government workers and contractors began to populate the area.
The city promotes an easy lifestyle and is home to many retirees. “Diamondhead is a carefully planned, premier community offering a relaxing lifestyle. Our community prides itself on its many resort-style amenities, which make life here so convenient, comfortable and fun,” says Myron Webb, retired NASA legislative affairs director.
Waveland
Located on the Bay of St. Louis, Waveland is a quaint beach town where the beach is easily accessible. One of Mississippi’s best state parks, Buccaneer State Park, is located right here. The park offers laid-back small beach town camping with great natural offerings ranging from bird watching to crabbing, and camping sites are available.
