A large Santa flag greets visitors
on the welcoming front porch with
its rocking chairs, interesting light fixture and a bit of coastal art — all dressed for the holidays with pillows, wrapped packages, greenery, red berry wreaths and trees with lights and ornaments.
Step into the inviting living room where a large Christmas tree shines brightly with ornaments and red and green lights. Starfish are interspersed among the boughs ‘cause after all this is a coastal house. The brightly
colored paintings on the wall also reflect the holiday theme. The fireplace is a key point. “I knew I wanted it (the cottage) when I peeped in and saw the unusual fireplace and the original heart pine flooring,” Janice recalls. Ready for Christmas, the fireplace is a real standout with a garland and twinkling lights.
On the deck, the table just happens to be green and is ready for a cheerful meal with a small tree centerpiece and red chargers under the white plates.
California transplants, the Halls had never been to this area until a few years ago when they were on their way to Florida and discovered Bay St. Louis. “We pulled up the Google Map on our computer and scanned the coastline. Hmmm...what’s this Bay Saint Louis place? Looks interesting, creative, historical and a Katrina survivor. Our curiosity was piqued and we located a vacation rental by owner to rent in Old Town, loaded up our two dogs and headed to the Gulf to check this place out,” Janice says.
BRIGHT RED and green makes Bay St. Louis cottage festive.
