Women inherently love shoes. Many shamelessly admit to adoring, collecting, and even hoarding them. Nothing wrong with that; but as they age, all women eventually agree that comfort trumps cute in the footwear department. As their feet succumb to arthritis and other age-related challenges, they wisely begin to re-think shoe choices. The good news is there’s no reason to throw style aside. Today’s brands and trends offer comfortable and fashionable ways for a grandmother to step out in style.
FASHION FLATS
Fall shoe trends favor flats. What a great thing for seniors! Comfort combined with the current low-to-the-ground trend in footwear... it doesn’t get any better. From ballet and mesh flats to buckled Mary Janes, these fun styles hit the fashion spot and check all the easy-to-wear boxes. A couple of tips for successfully choosing and purchasing flats are investing in quality shoes with good arch support and assuring proper fit with plenty of room in the toe box. Following these two simple suggestions can help avoid foot, back and knee discomfort while adding a smart and sassy edge to your cool weather wardrobe.
LOW HEELS
Beyond a certain age, high heels are probably best relegated to your rear-
view mirror. Wear low heels. They are chic and versatile, and your feet and posture will thank you for it. If you can manage stilettos for special occasions, then congratulations and go for it! The rest of us happily prefer feeling good with happy feet. Low heels are not only smart and stylish, but opting for a small heel or wedge helps with arch support. Thicker heels like low block heels are especially nice and accommodating on both the fashion and health fronts. They’re safer to walk in, elevate the wearer’s overall appearance, and add a confidence boost.
THE LITTLE BLACK BOOT
This season’s footwear staple that women of all ages should take note and advantage of is the little black boot, commonly referred to as the LBB. It stands the test of time and goes with anything and everything. If you own a favorite, great fitting pair already, good for you. Look for new and creative ways to style them. If you don’t have a pair,
get them. Shop wisely and go for good quality because you’ll wear them over and over, now and for months to come. A little black boot provides warmth and is easily paired with pants, skirts or dresses. The LBB is your go-to Fall fashion friend and will never disappoint!
