COAST NOTE
CELEBRATES 40 Years story by Jae Schifano photos courtesy of Cat sh Charlie
Cat sh Charlie is celebrating 40 years in the making! This Mississippi Gulf Coast restaurant has been near and dear to the Sinopoli family since it opened in the 1980s. Husband and wife Michael and Karen Sinopoli took ownership of Cat sh Charlie in 2005 after the restaurant’s namesake passed away.
“It was only natural for us to step up to the plate and continue the family business,” said Karen. Together, they have continued to be a Coast favorite, known for their great food and Southern hospitality. The establishment is well-loved among locals and tourists alike.
The Sinopolis both grew up in the Mississippi Gulf Coast area, so southern food is in their genes. They know what their customers like because it’s the same food they grew up eating.
“We take great pride and pleasure in knowing that we serve the ‘Best Southern Fried Cat sh on the Mississippi Gulf Coast,’” said Karen. “Our repeat and
new customers enjoy feeling like family when they dine in our quaint, comfortable, country-style setting, and our sta is top- notch in customer service.” This recipe for success is why Cat sh Charlie has been open and busy for 40 years.
Another factor is the always fresh and high quality food they serve. “We are serving seafood from our Gulf waters, cat sh from northern Mississippi, and fresh chicken that we bread ourselves,” remarked Karen. “By doing most of the prep work ourselves, it helps us bear all the challenges of the rising food and labor costs.”
Their most famous meal is, of course, the Southern Fried Cat sh. The Sinopolis say this item will always remain the way it is. The cat sh has been on the menu since the restaurant opened, and the family knows that, ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t x it.’
While the recipe remains unchanged, Cat sh Charlie does make cooking method changes for those with dietary issues upon request. It’s this care for their customers that has made this restaurant stand the test of time. Good food and genuine hospitality are what keep customers coming back year after year.
