where emergency responders awaited to take him to the hospital.
“The doctors diagnosed him as having had a heart attack. We also learned that his problem in seeing that fish was due to low blood pressure affecting his vision,” said Capt. Alan, whose father was released from the hospital the next day and is in recovery.
“Anytime anyone comes on your boat whether you’re a licensed captain running a paid charter or a private person, you’re responsible for everybody on the boat at all times, and you have to do what’s best for them regardless of their wishes. Anyone running a boat should have first-aid and CPR training. Licensed captains must have it, but it’s good for leisure folks too for use in on-the-water as well as on land emergencies. As demonstrated on this trip, emergency situations can arise when you least expect, regardless of your planning and care.”
Capt. Alan is right and offers good advice for all of us.
