proclaimed Kaylee Foster Day.
Foster has been playing football since
seventh grade. Her elementary PE coach encouraged her to do so after he saw her
kickball and soccer skills. She also plays on the Lady Greyhound soccer team and runs
track and field in the spring.
“I’ve never worried something would
happen,” she said in regard to playing what many believe to be a dangerous sport. “My
teammates back me up, and we’ve been fortunate to not have a bad snap this year.
We train hard everyday.” She adds that the team has a play and plan for bad snaps so she can avoid being tackled.
“I’ve always taken football a year at a time and never thought about quitting,” she said in regard to playing what is considered a boy’s sport. “It’s always been really fair.
I enjoy showing others that anyone can do anything and being different makes a difference.”
With her many athletic talents, Foster also thrives in the classroom and is currently dual-enrolled in college courses. She is senior class vice president, serves on the Mayor’s Youth Council and is president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She especially enjoys the school’s Buddies for Life club, which partners inclusion students with other students. “We make their high school experience the best it can be,” she said.
The daughter of Rendy and Jerry Foster, Kaylee has already verbally committed
to play soccer at Mississippi College
after graduation where she will study accountancy. Many have called her a role model for young girls. “I’ve never really thought about that before all of this,” she said. “I’ve been told I am a role model and it keeps me together. I try to work hard whether people are watching or not.”
