Instead of heading to large retailers or purchasing items online, the Hancock Chamber encourages you to promote local retailers by purchasing gifts close
to home. “When you shop local, you will find those unique gifts no large retailer can offer,” said Tish Williams, executive director of the Hancock Chamber of Commerce.
One study shows that for every dollar spent locally more than 60 cents remains in the community through taxes, payroll and other subsidies. “All year long, and especially during the holidays, the Hancock Chamber promotes the importance of shopping
local and its positive impact on the economy,” she said. “Every dollar spent with local merchants revitalizes our community and promotes continued employment.”
Paying local sales taxes instead of shipping charges funds vital government services such as fire and police protection. During these tough economic times, it’s more important than ever to spend with your neighbors. Don’t forget that November 24 is National Small Business Saturday to support the local businesses we love. “This year, we want you to get out and Shop Small® Shop Chamber,” said Williams. For a complete list of local businesses, visit the Chamber of Commerce website at www. hancockchamber.org.
