LETTER from the editor
It’s November and such a lovely time on the Mississippi Coast; a great time to get outside and enjoy the many festivals and other outdoor events. The biggest festival here — and also the state’s largest — is the Peter Anderson Arts & Crafts Festival in Ocean Springs taking place November 5 and 6. It’s always a lot of fun. The mornings may begin with a little nip but the sun warms things up with an autumn glow.
This month’s special section is a tribute to the Golden Years. This area has much to
offer those in
this time of life,
Thank you for your generous contribution to the Mental Health Association! Your support makes us a success.

I so enjoyed the interesting and well written article on the beautiful Bates-Lance home. Mrs. Lance is clearly a talented decorator!

whether retired
or still working.
Again this year
we brought
together a group
of residents for
a roundtable
discussion about
issues of the
Golden Years. We
hear over and
over about the
importance of
staying socially
involved during
these years. One
group of local men has found an ideal way to do that. They’re retired old men eating out (ROMEO) and we have their story in this section. Another popular activity during these years is camping and traveling in recreational vehicles (RVs). Read and enjoy the RV living story by Susan Ruddiman along with tips to consider before purchasing an RV.
Veterans will be honored and celebrated across the country on November 11. Get a head start by reading the amazing story of World War II veteran Henry Burkle. It’s in the section we call Living History, and truly this 95-year-old veteran has “lived history.” We are honored to have him in this publication.
Another veteran, retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Michael Peterson graciously consented to write this months Final Say and did an outstanding job. Our thanks to him and Mr. Burkle for their service.
In Healthy Living, we take a verbal look at the National Diabetes & Obesity Center at William Carey University’s Tradition Campus, tips for preventing and recognizing Alzheimer’s, new technology in dentistry, and inspiring recovery stories of breast cancer and weight loss patients.
Then with the feature home, we get an early start on holiday decorating that may get you inspired to make your home sparkle.
