LETTERS to the editor
LETTER from the editor
It’s November and such a lovely time on the Mississippi Coast. The state’s largest festival, the Peter Anderson Arts & Crafts Festival, takes place November 7 and 8 in Ocean Springs. It’s always a lot of fun. The mornings may begin with a little nip but the sun warms things up with an autumn glow.
That glow in South Mississippi also comes from residents living their Golden Years here. It’s easy to understand why the area is such a great place for retirement. As a
resident (originally
from Michigan) of
the Armed Forces
Retirement Home
said, “There’s
no snow here.”
And a member of
our Golden Years
roundtable who
moved here from
California said,
“There are so many
free things to do
here.”
I’m reading the article on Magnolia House as I type this and I couldn’t be happier. I have a wild grin on my face! We thank you
so much for the wonderful write-
up and the generous support your team provides. Our team is truly appreciative.

Their stories
and more are
featured in this
month’s Golden
Years special
section. There’s a piece about our cover models and two of their friends living the good life on and off the golf course; a story about the gem of military retirement homes that’s part of our community; an homage to a World War II flying ace; the big roundtable discussion; and more.
This month’s People story also connects to the Golden Years theme. It’s about the remarkable 84-year-old Ronald Reiter who serves as captain of the Maritime & Seafood Industry Museum’s Biloxi schooners.
In the Leisure section learn about the new Model Railroad Museum in Gulfport, a wonderful family attraction adding to the Coast’s tourism scene. There’s also an informative story about Coast Transit Authority and the many ways they serve the area.
You’ve heard of a horse whisperer and a dog whisperer, but did you know we have a fish whisperer among us? Mark Spain recounts an interesting tale of going fishing with a local fish whisperer in the Sports & Outdoor section.
We try to always present news you can use in the Healthy Living section and this month is no exception. Listen up men! You need to read the story about a well-know Coast man’s heart surgery and what the warning signs are. The other Healthy Living story is about this year’s March of Dimes fundraiser. It’s called The Farmer and The Chef, a fresh approach to raising funds and awareness while eating healthier.
