story by Victoria Snyder
An activity done in leisure time that is not related to one’s full-time career. One is often used for delight and entertainment.
When you think of a hobby, or something you do in your spare time, chances are you think of something like watching television, scrolling through social media, playing video games, or reading a book. But there are lots of ways you can spend your leisure time that aren’t so passive.
Maybe you’re thinking that it’s too late to find a new hobby because you’re set in your ways and your interests. Or maybe you’re thinking that a new hobby is too much work,
or it’s too expensive. But here’s some good news: there are all kinds of hobbies! Cheap ones, easy ones, time consuming ones... you name it, there’s some sort of activity out there for you.
If you’re looking for a way to help out around the house while learning something new, there’s plenty of hobbies in the culinary scene to pique your interest. Cooking and eating is something you have to do anyway – you might as well put some time in
to try to get better at it! There’s the classics, like learning how to cook,
or the traditionally masculine arts of barbecuing, grilling, or smoking meat. But there’s also coffee roasting, beer brewing, or even baking.
If you’re athletic or just have energy that you need to expel, sports or
working out might be the way to spend your free time. Cheap or free options include taking walks in nature, running, or jogging. Providing you have a gym membership, there’s the option of a daily workout, or you can get more focused on something, like weightlifting and bodybuilding. If you’re looking to invest a little more time and money, you can look for boxing or martial arts classes near you.
Feeling competitive but sports aren’t for you? Start having a game night with your friends! From board games, to cards, to tabletop roleplaying games, there’s plenty of options to keep you entertained.
Looking to tap into your artistic side? You can do things like drawing, painting, or get even more creative! There are things like woodworking
or wood burning, furniture building, knitting, photography, singing, learning an instrument, or learning to dance.
This just scratches the surface of possible hobbies for men to pick
up. I’ll leave you with a few more: stargazing, learning a new language, journaling, and gardening. There’s something for every type of guy to enjoy!
