From a young age, Dr. Hope Burkett knew she wanted to work in medicine and help others. As her education and training evolved, Dr. Burkett found
an interest in forensics and pathology, but ultimately, she developed a love for patient interaction. Today, Dr. Burkett practices general surgery with Merit Health Medical Group and helps patients across the Mississippi Gulf Coast develop the best possible plan for their health.
During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Burkett stresses to women the importance of an annual clinical breast exam (performed by your doctor) and a screening mammogram. “Early breast cancer detection can make a very big di erence in medical options, surgical options and long-term results,” she said. Dr. Burkett performs a
cancer diagnosis. “We sit down with every diagnosed patient and talk about their type of tumor, tumor size and systemic options,” she said. “I take great pride in continuing the conversation in
a patient’s long-term happiness. We do whatever we can to get rid of the cancer and treat the cancer – but we always consider your long-term happiness.”
