Happy spooky season, y’all! This is my favorite time of year, largely because of the abundance of pumpkin spice, and we’re getting into the spirit with another fun DIY project: witch door hangers! We think the final product is adorable (Are witches supposed to be adorable? We may have done it wrong), and would you believe it cost less than $20 to make?
South Mississippi starts October every year with America’s Largest Block Party, Cruisin’ the Coast! This year, local legend Shannon Poole of Street Outlaws New Orleans fame returns to Gulfport Dragway after his wreck at the same track. See what Shannon and his father, Dale, have been working on in this month’s People feature.
On the cover of this month’s magazine is Rianna Freeman Turner, the Best of Show winner from the 2019 Peter Anderson Festival. Surrounded by art in her home studio, Turner, much like her work, is vibrant and full of life. You’ll see some of her pieces in this year’s festival guide, which is included within
the pages of this month’s issue, as well as featured in Andrea Peacock’s interior design column on choosing art for your home.
Also in this issue, Coastal Mississippi presents Safe & Sound, a three-month special section highlighting the many restaurants, attractions, museums, casinos, hotels, and small businesses that are going above and beyond to offer guests and locals a safe and enjoyable experience in Coastal Mississippi.
This month, I had the pleasure of visiting Georgia’s Corner Market in Vancleave. This place is truly a hidden gem, but it won’t stay that way for long! Locals are known to call in to ask for the daily special, hopeful to hear the words “shrimp and grits.” Every dish I tried was delicious and I’ll certainly be adding this place to my rotation.
