When the Hancock Chamber of Commerce Board established the Hancock Community Development Foundation 12 years ago, they could not have imagined the impact this public charity would have on the community more than a decade later.
“Since its inception, the Foundation has been a conduit to receive $6.9 million in grants and donations to sponsor and support educational and community programs that stimulate job creation, foster
and rebuilt 25 properties countywide after Katrina.
The Foundation has not only helped small businesses, but also has been
a support to citizens with a passion
for community causes like education, historic preservation, parks and safety projects, beautification, and programs that nurture youth and leadership in the community.
To support operating costs, the Hancock Chamber provides pro

development,”
said Leslie
Henderson of
Lazy Magnolia
Brewing
Company,
who serves as
chairman of the 20 member volunteer board.
One of the largest projects the Foundation supports is the Job Generation Fund. This $3 million CDBG HUD funded program is an economic development revitalization program that enhanced the recovery of 44 small businesses, created or retained 39 jobs,
bono staff management services and the Foundation board
holds two fundraisers each year: Cuz for the Cause in the spring and the Annual Fall
Golf Tournament.
“When you make a donation
through one or both of these events, you are helping support the work of
23 different community causes,” said Henderson. “I’d say that’s a great return on your charitable contribution.”
To make a donation, visit to www.hancockchamber.org.
The past four years, the team from Hancock Whitney Bank has earned first place bragging rights from the annual “Swing for the Cause” Tournament.
