HOME melded together
recalls how it was determined who got which clock. “She hid them in a closet and tied a string to each one,” he said. “Each of us pulled a string and that was the clock we got.”
Robert’s clock and copper collection are displayed atop the book shelves. Some of it came from Morocco where the family lived while Robert’s dad was assigned as military attache to the American Embassy. There’s also a brass samovar from Russia.
A laundry room and master suite were added to the back of the house just prior to Hurricane Katrina. Again family pieces play a starring role. There’s a Moroccan armoir that Sharon says all the family covets, Robert’s dad’s leather chair, and a small chest of drawers that was in
Robert’s boyhood bedroom. Tin and iron pieces are used as wall art and a wrought iron gate serves as the bed’s headboard. The large master bath and closet are a testament to Sharon’s organizational skills where everything is neat, orderly and labeled.
There is one other bathroom and two bedrooms, one of which Sharon uses as an office. The framed pen and ink drawings of Robert’s mom line the hallway as a focal point.
“I like the mixture of old and new for an eclectic look,” Sharon says.
Married just three years and coming from different backgrounds, the Gargiulos have melded their interests and talents for a lovely home where both are comfortable.
Family pieces throughout this home add to the southern charm. Everything from the artwork, to Robert’s dad’s leather chair, and a small chest of drawers, take you back a lifetime in the Gargiulo home.
