LETTER from the editor
Please, is it fall yet? Although it’s still warm, October is a glorious month in South Mississippi. It brings shorter days, a small break in the weather, colorful Monarch butterflies, and a variety of outdoor events to entice us outside. You can find
details about many of these events on our calendar, one of the most popular parts
of the magazine each month.
Get the jump on the more than 100,000 visitors who will
fill the streets of downtown Ocean Springs at the
40th annual Peter
Anderson Arts &
Crafts Festival with
the official festival
guide published here.
It’s the grandaddy of
Coast festivals and
doesn’t actually take
place until the first weekend of November. Our readers can see what
will be going on and know which vendors’ booths they want to visit. Congratulations to the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce on 40 years of producing an outstanding festival.
Calling all sports and outdoor enthusiasts: maybe you’ve noticed that we now have three writers in the Sports & Outdoors section each month — each with expertise and years of experience in the activities about which they write. Long time golf coach Tommy Snell covers local golf; veteran fisherman and outdoorsman Frank Wilem writes about all sorts of adventures on the water; and retired television sportscaster A.J. Giardina gives us the scoop about local teams and other topics of interest. This month, Giardina takes us on a tour of the Saints Football Hall of Fame in the Superdome.
Another event anniversary happens this year as Ron Meyers Christmas City celebrates 35 years of bringing cheer and holiday shopping to the area. You can read about it in the Leisure section.
Also in the Leisure section, we tell you about a haunted Halloween
trail taking place this month. More than just scary fun, it provides an opportunity to contribute to the American Cancer Society’s Real Men Wear Pink campaign to raise funds for breast cancer research.
In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we have some stories in the Healthy Living section that provide helpful information. And not to be overlooked in this section, is the piece about how to recognize the symptoms of a stroke and what to do.

We are truly honored to have had you partner with us on this year’s Taste of Ocean Springs Food & Wine Festival. With more than 500 ticketed attendees to the event, it was truly a team effort that surpassed all of our expectations.
It would have not been possible without your support. Thank you
for taking part in this event which featured some of the finest aspects of the Mississippi Gulf Coast to our locals and our visitors.
