LETTERS to the editor
LETTER from the editor
It’s still warm here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, but the long hot summer is over and beautiful October has arrived. It’s time to get outside for fun activities and the many festivals and special events that take place this time of year.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month with a lot of people across the country wearing pink to foster awareness of the continuing fight against this disease. We feature stories of breast cancer surgery and survivors in this month’s Healthy Living section.
Frank Wilem always has an interesting story, and this month is no exception as he takes us along on a dive for spiny lobsters off the Coast of Florida.
The first week of the month is the annual Cruisin’ the Coast, the nation’s biggest block party. Scores of visitors come here; some fall in love with the area and return
to live. Such was
the case for the owners of this month’s feature home, Brenda and Mike Wilburn, who relocated from Memphis to Pass Christian last year.
The Biloxi-
Ocean Springs
Association of
Realtors has a
special section
this month. In
addition to making
a compelling
argument for using
realtors, there are
interesting stories
about the latest home tech trends, staging a home to sell, and pointers for that all-important insurance coverage.
We’ve also included the official guide for the Peter Anderson Arts & Crafts Festival in this month’s edition because it takes place the first weekend of November — 4 and 5. This way shoppers and browsers can get an early start with advance planning to see which favorite artists are returning and check out a few new ones, along with food vendors and entertainment.
And last but certainly not least, in The Final Say guest columnist Bruce Nourse reflects on the 25 years of legalized gambling in Mississippi. It was no accident that the states’ policies and processes are similar to those of Las Vegas.

Thank you so much for covering the Coast so perfectly. I live out
of town, but love to keep in touch with my hometown. This magazine is a perfect way for me to keep in touch with home.
