DRIVES GULFPORT MAIN STREET AND DOWNTOWN IN 2020
Business is booming in Downtown Gulfport thanks to its thriving Main Street Association, local leadership and flourishing businesses. Entities such as Coast Transit Authority (CTA), the University of Southern Mississippi (USM), the Port of Gulfport, Gulfport Job Corps Center, and the city and Main Street Association are leading the way, bringing new and innovative developments to the downtown area in 2020.
CTA TRAMWAY
A $5.35 million grant has been awarded by the U.S. Department
of Transportation to CTA to fund the final phase of construction for
a bridge over Highway 90 in Downtown Gulfport. The project will connect Gulfport’s transit center, Mississippi Aquarium, and Jones Park with an electric tram, pedestrian walkway, and bicycle path, shortening travel times and improving safety and access for visitors.
“As economic development booms on the Gulf Coast, this grant will allow our Coast Transit Authority the ability to match our growing public transportation needs,” said Congressman Steven Palazzo. “Knowing that south Mississippi is expanding, I was glad to support this grant application and believe it will not only accommodate transportation demands but improve our facilities.”
