Revelers rejoice! The new location of the Coastal Mississippi Mardi Gras Museum held its ribbon cutting last month and is now open and ready to bring the history of Mardi Gras on the Mississippi Gulf Coast to life.
The museum’s name is meant to encompass Carnival celebrations from Hancock to Jackson county. While immersing themselves in the beauty and pageantry of coastal Mardi Gras, visitors will be able to take selfies in the king and queen’s thrones, play dress up, and enjoy a film produced
by August Taconi. All items on exhibit have been donated or are
on loan to the Museum.
In addition, local artist Teri
Gandour has created an abstract mural from damaged or unknown costumes, and Kate Rushton’s photo-op outside mural lets guests take on a royal mantle.
The Museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and closed major holidays. General admission is $8, $7 for seniors, $7 for military, and $5 for students 12 and under.
