Well-Traveled
When Danette Shaw says she loves everything Asian, especially if it’s from China, she’s not just whistling Dixie. The Gulfport home she shares with husband Don Pizzetta and Dachshund Pepper is a testament to the beauty of Asian art, porcelain, furniture, rugs and mementos.

ocated on a historic street, their home was built in 1923 with a rear addition in the
‘50s. The couple bought the house after
their beachfront home was destroyed in Hurricane Katrina. This house was damaged
and required all new sheetrock and front windows. Shaw points out that they didn’t change the footprint of the house. However, her personal touch is evident in every inch of space.
From the front door to the back, this home is a layered symphony of warm shades of rust, red, green and blue with lots of art, rugs, pillows, wooden statues, pottery and other accessories. The textured taupe fabric of the living room’s window treatments reflects a Chinese print. There are intricately carved corbels from Tibet in the doorways leading into the dining room and kitchen.
“I love everything about China and Asia where we’ve traveled many times,” Shaw said, “and we always have things shipped home.”
Art prints purchased at an art school in Mongolia grace the dining room walls and bring back memories of time spent there.
